So I have recently got the rights back to one of my books (Ghost of a Chance). I am planning on releasing it myself when it’s all all mine (come August 1) and I can do what I want with the book—use the unedited version of course (which is easy since they pretty much only took out every single comma I used and that was it)—and I have to come up with my own cover. The publisher retains the pics, so, I have to come up with a new one.
The problem is… I just don’t know how much I want to spend going forward. Believe it or not, when I was talking to the hubby about it, his response was, “if you’re going to put it out there to sell, you might as well go all in.”
I am pretty sure I made fish-face—mouth gaping, no sound coming out—for a moment or two before I said, “okay.”
Now, I don’t know which way to go. I have one friend, who will do a great job and she’s very reasonable, though I will need to come up with pics for it—I don’t know if I have the eye for that, though. Or she will charge a little extra if she has to provide the pics. I also know a gal (well, I knew her years ago and her career doing cover, etc has really taken off) and she charges a *wee* bit more, but the covers are pretty darn cool, and she can do the formatting too as well as several other services.
Oh, what to do…
Part of the problem, I can totally get sucked up, time, money, etc in something like this. While, like I said, I don’t have the eye, I *love* all things creative and the process is often times so very fun and satisfying. So, I have held back until I can get my thoughts in order.
What route have you, will you, did you take? Thoughts or suggestions a very welcome. TIA (thanks in advance)
…and don’t get me started on the whole: I need a new website, but don’t know what to do… gaw!
