What ever happened to...
...the art of waving

When I was a kid and stayed with Nanny and Granddaddy in Rotan (an hour North of Abilene, Texas for those that have never heard of it, which is anyone who is not from there) people would wave to you when they passed you on the street. Nowadays, if you wave at someone you are more likely to get the bird than a happy salutation.

I remember my brother would sit snug up next to Granddaddy in the truck and set his wee hand on top the larger grizzled one and they would both lift their index finger in a western, "how do you do."

The neighbors on our Cul-du-sac (sp?!?!) will wave when we see each other but that is it. I think that is so sad. I almost want to drive out to Rotan - though I am sure any small town out past Weatherford would accommodate just as well - and wave. Get back that warm friendly feeling of a neighborly hello.
