Once Upon a Christmas Eve

Once Upon a Christmas Eve,
Four little boys ran and hid.
They wanted to see Santa,
If it was the last thing they did.

One hid in a cubby,
But not too, too far.
Another in a closet,
The door just ajar,

One secret under a table,
Lying still and supine.
The last and the smallest,
Behind the great big pine.

They giggled and laughed,
Then shushed themselves all up.
They watched the cookies,
And the milk in the cup.

He would be here,
Before too long.
He would be here,
And they planned him a song.

They all made it up,
All on their own.
They wrote the words,
And created the tone.

“Hey Santa, we’re so Happy,”
“You made it to see us tonight.”
“We’re so thankful you came.”
“All the toys, we won’t even fight.”

Mom copied the words,
Dad helped with the rhyme.
It won’t be too long,
It’s almost time.

One by one, mouths stretched,
As the yawns grew bold.
Two by two eyes shut,
As sleep took hold.

Mom and dad carried each little boy,
To his room and very own bed.
They gave a quick kiss on the cheek,
And pat on each little head.

“Maybe next year boys,”
“You’ll stay up past ten oh three.”
“Maybe next Christmas Eve,”
“Santa you will see.”

That was sooooo sweet!

I thought you were going to take a break from writing. Egads, we've created a monster!

THANKS!

I wrote it in October for my Critique group's Christmas book that we're handing out tomorrow at the Stockyards to kids.

My Brain has two more days on vacation before i start trying to write again (I gave myself a week)
